We
have a variety of programs for your organization! Read
about them below, then use this form
to inquire about scheduling an event.
Lectures
& Demonstrations
Our most popular program for schools, seniors,
and other educational presentations, the Lecture/Demo
is part performance, part group discussion, providing
audiences with an exciting and informative introduction
to African culture through music and dance. By tailoring
each Lecture/Demo to meet the requirements of our audience,
Wadoma presents a crash course in African music and
dance that benefits everyone in attendance.
Performances
With one foot planted firmly in the musical
traditions of West Africa and another reaching for innovation,
Wadoma endeavors to bring a centuries-old form of social
expression to Western audiences, blending African, American
and other worldly art forms to create a one-of-a-kind
spectacle of movement and sound.
Music & Dance Workshops
Like the Lecture/Demo, the Wadoma workshop
can be tailored to fit any level of experience. Workshops
are led by one of Wadoma’s experienced teachers
of drum or dance. Dance workshop begins with warm-ups,
followed by a breakdown of traditional dance movements.
Students then have a chance to practice the steps accompanied
by live music, and perform a voluntary dance solo. Students
will also be introduced to a song, including the words
and their meaning. Drum class begins with warm-ups of
basic rudiments and an explanation of hand technique,
followed by a breakdown of different polyrhythmic patterns
that form a rhythm from the vast repertoire of the djembe.
Workplace Team-Building
Encourage camaraderie and teamwork among your
employees and co-workers in an informal and non-working
environment. Group drumming is a fun and challenging
activity in which individuals express themselves while
working together as a whole, thus facilitating cooperation,
creativity and non-verbal communication. The Team-Building
program is ideal for company picnics and employee appreciation
days.
Foreign Language Classes
Give students a break from learning grammar
rules and allow Wadoma’s French language specialists
teach them about the culture and traditions of Francophone
West Africa. Class can be taught entirely in French
or suited to any level of proficiency, and may include
a presentation of dress, cuisine and local languages,
as well as music and dance.
Artist Residency
Invite us to stay for a while! With a residency,
Wadoma can give students a lasting educational experience,
while giving educators the keys to teach West African
music and dance for years to come. The residency culminates
in a performance that students present to their families.
